I guess I am nesting

http://www.flylady.net/pages/begin_babysteps.asp
Okay, have you ever had something happening to you physically, like pregnancy, and you read in certain books on the condition a statement that predicts how you will be acting at each stage? It also happens when some lovely well meaning (or sometimes not so well meaning) friend or family member predicts your or someone else's reaction, or action to a situation or event. Sometimes you you are fine with what ever the experts, friend, or family member says, sometimes you find your self indignant and think, "That is totally ludicrous, I would never do that! That certainly won't be me!" (think Kristy Alley in "Look Who's Talking" when she reads about post pardom depression and says, "Well that won't happen to me!" and the next shot is of her sitting in her pj's crying on the sofa)
When I first read about the "nesting syndrome" that you are suppose to have as you get closer to the birth, I though to myself, "Yeah sure, I can barely motivate myself to go to work and do daily cleaning, there is no way I am going to be scrubbing windows or the anything else I can get to hold still". Well, it's time to cut to the shot of me scrubbing the windows. It all started innocently enough, I did my weekly cleaning and noticed that maybe I should clean the bottom of the fridge...The windows...All the glass and mirrors in the house no matter how small...And maybe clean the carpet with our carpet cleaner. I love a clean house, so it's not the cleaning that bothers me really, it's the fact that they say this happens right before you give go into labor! I am also a planner and I have planned to work right up to my due date and this is really ruining my plans!

I can see me now going into labor on the job and trying to hang in there till 7:15 before I punch out and head to the 3rd floor to deliver. "really it's not so bad, the first stage of labor can take hours" funny I choose to believe that part of the book as it serves my purposes. But the portions that I do not like are, of course totally wrong and stupid.
Worst case senario, I will have raw fingers but a super clean home so I guess it's not such a bad thing after all. I will just have to keep my legs crossed for awhile and hope the "right before labor" part of the book is totally stupid and wrong!

pregnancy lists

http://www.babycenter.com/
Here are a few "lists" that I found interesting reguarding prenancy and the birth....
http://www.ericaehm.com/index.cfm?PID=15873&PIDLIST=15873
Wish List for Mom
Ah, pregnancy! Your mind wanders to thoughts of cute little booties, baby coos and warm, soft days nestled with your cherished bundle of joy. Then reality hits, and you realize motherhood may not be as rosy as you wish it would be. But hey, it's okay to wish a little. Here are a few things to wish for, be it fantasy or reality:
Fantasy
An effortless pregnancy, labor and delivery.
Lose all your baby weight the day after delivery.
24-hour "technical" support for your new arrival.
Built-in feeding instructions.
Baby Crying Decoder System so you know exactly what your baby needs every time.
Baby sleeping through the night the day you come home from the hospital.
A year or more of paid maternity leave.
A 100 percent safe and pain free "world" for your little one.
All the time in the world to spend with your baby.
Reality
A healthy pregnancy that results in the delivery of a healthy baby.
Reasonable weight gain during pregnancy so that weight can be lost easily and sensibly.
A network of friends, family or assistance during the first few weeks at home.
Lactation/Feeding specialists, new parent classes, reliable consultants/doulas.
The love, patience and inner wisdom to guide you in learning how to care, comfort and console your newborn baby.
To use books, videos and the advice of friends to help you and your baby develop good eating and sleeping routines.
Your legal right to maternity leave
A relatively safe and healthy start for your baby: choosing a reliable, accredited pediatrician; purchasing safe equipment, insurance for your home and health; good hygiene habits for you and your baby; and making the decision to immunize your child or not.
A realistic expectation of parenting, realizing the time you spend should be quality time, and that your love (not necessarily your time) is the most important thing your baby needs.

When people over rate their cleverness

It is sad that some people are so bored in their own life that they will do anything to distract themselves from the problems and issues that they should be addressing within their own families and psyche by trying to get information about other individuals and their lives. Resorting to the most petty of means necessary all the while over estimating either their own cleverness or the other persons level of trust. It is sad to when someone is so obsessed with an individual that has made it more than abundantly clear to the whole world (you would think that would be enough to dissuade any further contact from them but, no) that they have no desire to have anything to do with them and want to be as disassociated from them as possible. I know I am not that interesting, but then again, you are reading aren't you so who knows. Ha Ha!
Enough on the negativity already, on to the good things!
Husband and I have already been to 3 baby related classes. We preregistered for our delivery and even filled out the preliminary birth certificate! Can you believe that you can do that? I guess it is open to changes especially if the sex is different that the ultrasounds predict. We have moved our home office out of the soon to be nursery and picked up MORE baby furniture last night after I got off work. Who knew a baby required so much furniture! We tried to pick items that will grow with our child so the investment doesn't seem so bad. There is still so much left to buy however but I am working some extra shifts so that helps some.
It is so overwhelming to realize that your life is forever changed, that from now on you can't just do what you want that you have to think about this little human being before you think about yourself. To have someone so utterly dependent on you for everything is a little frightening. To know your actions whether they are good ones or selfish ones will impact this persons whole life in ways you can't even imagine. To know that they will grow up and have their own opinions and experiences and effect on our world and that all of that will be influenced by you is such responsibility. We all want the best for our children. Okay, at least most of us do and I know most of us make daily decisions (muchless major life decisions) with a thought as to their effect on our children first. Heck I have been doing that with my cats for years although I really don't have to worry about one of my cats getting preg. at 15, dropping out of school, or deciding to never speak to me ever again. I do try to provide even my cats with the a safe and secure home, one where there will always be plenty of food and where they never have to worry that they might be dumped off with someone because I can't pay the house payment. I see no reason that a child deserves any less but infact so much more. My husband and I have been talking a lot about our childhoods through my preg. (both the good and the bad) and how we can improve on them and incorporate the things that worked as well as try not to include the things that didn't. I think we have both learned a lot about each other which is a nice bonus too and luckily we are able to agree on most of the major issues we has discussed so far. I am sure there will be disagreements but I think we are both mature enough to talk through them and compromise. I am both excited and frightened about this new phase of my life but I think I have lots of support from knowledgeable and caring people in my life, and a more than supportive mate so that helps a lot.

what to say to a mom to be

Here are a few things to keep in mind when offering advice, support or criticism to a new mother: On the Issue of Pregnancy and Postpartum Weight: What to Say (All with Sincerity):
Honey, you look terrific!
Pregnancy becomes you.
You need to gain weight, our baby's well-being depends on it!
Honey, you just had a baby! You look great for just having a baby!
You're having our baby! That automatically makes you beautiful! What NOT to Say:
Wow, you're BIG for____months!
Well, at least people know you're pregnant!
Should you be eating that? You don't want to gain too much weight.
Hey, try breastfeeding! That should take the weight off!
Oh, I didn't realize you already had your baby! On the Issue of Bottle Feeding vs. Breastfeeding: What to Say:
Whatever you decide to do, dear. The baby will be healthy either way.
Let's take a breastfeeding class together.
I know a friend who's breastfeeding her child. I'll put you in touch with her.
There are lots of great formulas out there for you to choose from.
Breastfeeding is a beautiful experience to enjoy with your baby. What NOT to Say:
Breastfeeding is for mothers who are too cheap to buy formula.
I wouldn't breastfeed if I were you. I tried for three months and gave up because it was too hard.
Formula is unhealthy for babies. He'll be sick all the time.
Mothers who love their babies breastfeed their babies.
Breastfeeding is "dirty" and perverted, especially if done in public. On the Issue of Child Rearing: What to Say:
I would love to give you advice on anything you need. Just let me know.
I've got some great books on parenting. Would you like to borrow them?
Let's take a parenting class together. That way, we can be prepared.
Parenthood is challenging, but I know you'll be great at it!
Follow your heart. You know what's best for your child. What NOT to Say:
Well, here is what I (my mother, Aunt Mabel, Dr. So-n-so, etc.,) think/thinks is best for your baby.
This is the only book worth reading on parenting!
Just you wait when this baby is born; you'll see how difficult parenting is!
Always/Never pamper your children, give them time outs, etc. (In fact, eradicate the words "always" and "never" from your vocabulary when discussing parenting!)
Well, if I were you...

pregnancy is fun boy's and girl's

They are thinking that I am developing gestational diabetes so my husband and mother have become the food police. My husband even moved the treadmill into the living room. I find it makes and even better coat rack there than it did when it was in the spare room.
I am also having a very hard time finding maternity clothes in anything over a size 12. I am trying to hold my belly in enough to still say I am an 18-22 (depends on if I actually want to breathe or not) but I am finding that the only options I have are online. I ordered from Jc Penny maternity and got 3 pairs of 1x prego pants, one pair falls off, one pair is super tight in the thighs when I sit, and the third pair (is just right, naw I wish) is some ones idea of a cruel joke on larger preg. women, its maternity low rider pants!!!!!!! Okay, I feel that my body has passed the stage (if it ever even had one) of being able to wear low rider pants. Heck even Britney Spears has passed the stage of being able to wear low rider pants!
Who thought a larger preg. would actually look good or feel comfortable in these?
My husband who sat there trying to tell me that they looked okay and trying not to bust out laughing at the same time, informs me that they actually make maternity thongs too. I am trying to picture this, my swollen, preg. body squeezed into these low rider maternity jeans with a maternity thong and a what, I don’t even know what, a tank top or tube top or, heck, a sports bra, walking down Pearl street mall with all of the College girls in this town! (all the while hissing under my breath, watch out sister 15 years from now! um hum you'll look in the mirror one day and whamo only of course by then they will be designing maternity stripper clothes up to a size 26!)
