Nana's Peanut Butter Cookie

This cookie has 190 calories, 9 grms of fat, 26 grms of carbs, 10 grms of sugar, and 4 grms of sugars. Just like the Chocolate Chip version, this is for 1/2 a cookie. I actually like this cookie best out of the two. It has real peanut bits in it and is super peanutty! I am including their website so you can use their store locator or order direct and so you can see all of the different varieties they have. They even have cute t-shirts!
Order them here!!

Nana's Chocolate Chip cookie with no refined sugar!

I am trying to find snacks for Lilith (and us in moderation) that are healthier than the average high fructose corn syrup laden fare that is crowding our supermarket shelves these days.
I found these cookies at a health food store here in Anchorage called the Natural Pantry (3801 Old Seward Hwy (907)770-1444) for $2.29 each.
Please be aware that the nutritional information is for 1/2 a cookie! They are pretty big cookies however. I have tried other vegan (yes, they are vegan) cookies in the past. I was actually a vegan for 8 months pre-wls and gained 20 pounds! I blame this on my inability to eat cheese. The meat I could do without but I almost mugged a guy for his nachos one day and decided it was time to give it up. Anyhoo, these cookies have no refined sugar and no strange fake sugar substitutes that can make you dump or at least gassy. They are sweetened with fruit juices (pear, apple, and grape) but they don't taste like juice. Each serving has 210 calories, 1 gm of fat, 29 grms of carbs, 11grms of sugar, and 3 grm of protein. Is this a food you should have often, nope but it is a good treat once in awhile and I feel a lot better about giving it to my daughter than regular cookies. It is a very dense cookie and 1/2 of one is super filling. If it weren't for the $2.29 price tag, I would buy them often for Lilith snacks.

Subway puts crack in their cookies! okay not really but I am withdrawing from them just the same

I have been working so much that I haven't been keeping track of my weight like I normally do, which some would argue is a good thing since I can be a bit obsessive about it. Since I have been working so much, I have also been wearing elastic waist scrub pants everyday. Yesterday I actually had a day off and went out in normal clothes to shop. I got home and was changing into PJ's when I realised that I had pulled my corduroy pants down without undoing them. I was impressed. I certainly couldn't have done that when I purchased them last year. I had been looking through last years Halloween photos and deciding that I actually look thinner then than I do now but maybe I am wrong. I know what it has to be, the awful cafeteria food at my new hospital. My old hospital had a Subway in it. "What so is unhealthy about Subway?", you ask. Their cookies! I swear they contain crack. They even have a "special" on them, buy three for $1.30 (3 for a Dollar non-Alaska price). You just have to buy the "special" since it is like getting one whole cookie free right? Yep, I would go at least a couple of times a week and buy a grilled chicken wrap (hold the sauce, or if I had been really good, with light mayo but only a little), light Lemonade, and possibly a bag of sun chips. Then as I was checking out and thinking how healthy I was being getting a whole meal for 500 calories (or so) that would fill me up for my 12 hour shift..I would see the cookies. They place them right by the register for this very reason, I just know it. I say a silent prayer that the person wrapping my meal will hurry. Darn, they dropped an olive and feel compelled to replace it, now I smell the cookies. I go back over their nutritional information in my mind (I looked it up and memorized it hoping it would stop me from buying them, it didn't work). "Geez", I tell myself, "almost 300 calories each, almost the calories in your wrap and not even very filling." "They sometimes give you a pouchy ache." "Sometimes they don't" "Sometimes they are under/over baked and taste awful" "Sometimes they are cooked just right and taste Divine" "they have probably been sitting there all day" "So have the ingredients in your wrap" I hate to admit it but most of the time, the cookie won and I ended up getting at least one. If I was lucky, they didn't have any by the time I got a chance to go eat. Well, luckily, the food at my new job isn't tempting. It is standard hospital cafeteria food. I usually get a salad with balsamic Vinegar. This can be very good. But darn, I miss those crack Subway cookies. Maybe they have a support group out there.

Are they made with real Girl Scouts?

Thankfully no.
Are these little cookie peddlers some evil spawn out to introduce trans fat into our diets all under the rouse of a charitable donation? I think not, as I was a girl scout, wait some people would argue that doesn't help prove their innocence much. I did indeed peddle the little boxes of sugar and fat to many people in the 70's in the bay area. I in fact broke the record one year for the county we lived in and my troupe got to go to Marriott's Great America (an amusement park) and I got the first portable CD player I had ever seen in return. So needless to say, every time some coworker or, God forbid, an actual little pigtailed girl scout hits me up to buy these tasty nuggets, I cave.

So needless to say a coworker was selling these addictive cookies for not just one daughter but two! I looked and the younger girls sheet and her totals were woefully behind her sisters. I am a sucker for the underdog so buy away. I have to say that the Trefoils pictured above are quite good, transfat free and only 150 calories for 5 cookies. The sugar; 6 grams, The fat; 2 grams (nonsaturated), The carbohydrates; 20grams (not bad for being what they are, a tasty cookie) I still get to feel good about helping my fellow scout and not too bad about hurting my families waist line.
