Nana's Chocolate Chip cookie with no refined sugar!
I am trying to find snacks for Lilith (and us in moderation) that are healthier than the average high fructose corn syrup laden fare that is crowding our supermarket shelves these days.
I found these cookies at a health food store here in Anchorage called the Natural Pantry (3801 Old Seward Hwy (907)770-1444) for $2.29 each.
Please be aware that the nutritional information is for 1/2 a cookie! They are pretty big cookies however. I have tried other vegan (yes, they are vegan) cookies in the past. I was actually a vegan for 8 months pre-wls and gained 20 pounds! I blame this on my inability to eat cheese. The meat I could do without but I almost mugged a guy for his nachos one day and decided it was time to give it up. Anyhoo, these cookies have no refined sugar and no strange fake sugar substitutes that can make you dump or at least gassy. They are sweetened with fruit juices (pear, apple, and grape) but they don't taste like juice. Each serving has 210 calories, 1 gm of fat, 29 grms of carbs, 11grms of sugar, and 3 grm of protein. Is this a food you should have often, nope but it is a good treat once in awhile and I feel a lot better about giving it to my daughter than regular cookies. It is a very dense cookie and 1/2 of one is super filling. If it weren't for the $2.29 price tag, I would buy them often for Lilith snacks.
