I learned the hard way not to try new food in public (especially when newly post op) while leaving a restaurant. It was a wonderful Indian restaurant with healthy food, great atmosphere (soft lighting, soft music, candles, the works) and that was the first time we had gone there. We loved it. Needless to say after what happened, we never ate there again. We were parked directly in front of it and the front of it was all glass so you could see the view of the mountains from the dining area. I ate a very small amount even though it was so very hard to stop because the food was so very good. I noticed when I got up that I had a strange tightening in my throat but I didn't know what it was. It didn't feel like nausea use to feel preop so I didn't know what was coming. We got to the car and I sat in the passenger side and instantly knew I was going to be ill so I got up and started trying to walk away from the front of the restaurant as I was mortified that I was going to vomit right in front of all of the diners inside. I had no gaging or other type of warning just the tightening sensation in my throat. My husband (who had surgery 3 months later and didn't eat out for several months post op thanks to this experience) kept telling me to go to the bushes, as he leaned as far away from me as he could get, through his thinly cracked car window.
Have you ever tried to projectile vomit and walk at the same time?
It can't be done. Later, he told me that it looked like a giant pink snake was erupting from me (TMI I know). A few months ago Lilith found a giant pink snake at a toy store and fell in love and had to have it. My husband purchased it for her while smiling at me the whole time. Wouldn't you know it has become one of her favorite toys!?!
