Primal Strips
I found these at the Natural Pantry in Anchorage for $1.59 each, but I have purchased them before at Whole Foods in Boulder when I was masquerading as a Vegan. I remember really liking them (husband doesn't care for the ones made out of shiitake mushrooms but he loves all of the others)but it hadn't occured to me that they might be really good and portable protein snacks for post weight loss surgery but they are. The Thai peanut flavor only has 8 grms of carbs, 2 grms fat (1grm is saturated), 4grms sugar, and 10 grms of protein for 74 calories. The Seitan Mesquite Lime ones have 7gms of carbs, 2 grms of fat, 4 grms of sugar, and 10 grms of protein for 74 calories. The Hot & Spicy Shiitake Mushroom ones have 108 calories, 4 grms fat (1 grm is saturated), 12 grms of carbs, 3 grms of sugar, and 6 grms of protein. The Hickory Smoked Soy ones have 99 calories, 3 grms of fat (1 grm is saturated), 8 grms of carbs, 3 grms of sugar, and 10 grams of protein. The Texas BBQ Soy ones have, 81 calories with 1 grm of saturated fat, 11 grms of carbs, 5 grms of sugar, and10 grms of protein. The Teriyaki Seitan ones have 99 calories with 3 grams of fat, 7 grams of carbs, 3 grams of sugar, and 11 grams of protein! These stats are better than many of the supposedly low carb protein bars out there, and they taste better than many of the protein bars out there also! They have a great texture and are still jerky like without being quite as chewy (dry) and hard to digest! I am so glad that my past love for this product made me give them a try as a post weight loss surgery protein rich snack! If you are giving these to small children be aware that some flavors are quite spicy (Thai Peanut, Hot & Spicy in particular) but many other flavors are sure to be a favorite in the lunch box! I think these are one of the best high protein post wls snacks out there!
