which burns more calories?

Hiking with a 27lb toddler (or a 16 lb cat) in my kelty FC 3.0 backpack (weighs 7lbs 14 oz) or pushing a jogging stroller with same sized toddler or I suppose cat?
I posed this question on two different wls boards and a very kind person actually took the time to look up the answer. This is what she found;
Hiking - climbing hills, 21-42 lb load
This activity burns approximately
1,045 calories per hour.
Baby Stroller - pushing
This activity burns approximately
327 calories per hour.
Jogging
This activity burns approximately
1,296 calories per hour.
Wow! what a caloric difference! I just hope the weather clears enough to go hiking with Lilith soon! If you are a regular reader then you have no doubt seen the many photos of the moose outside of our backyard fence. We are fortunate enough to have a beautiful greenbelt that backs up to our backyard complete with hiking trails. We have a neighbor that cross country skis there almost everyday in the winter. I wave at her in my pj's while getting Lilith's breakfast ready(makes me feel like a total slacker). My husband wants to start cross country skiing next winter but I think snow shoeing might be more my speed. I snow board well enough (I have a too cute snow board that I will have to post photos of someday), but I have never skied very well. I hope to get Lilith started in ski lessons as soon as she is old enough, heck, maybe I can take them with her? (what an image that conjures up, me and a bunch of little kids practicing pizza and french fries with our skis!).
