Wow! Maybe we have gained some size acceptance in our society!
I pirated this from melting mama, because I too was amazed at the wording of this ad! I am at least pleased to realize that this type of ad would never be able to run today with this wording. Maybe we have advanced some in accepting larger people, considering that the average woman is a size 12-14 now and that 1 in 3 people in the US will develop a form of diabetes in their life time! I have noticed that even in Alaska, not a week goes by (I work 3 twelve hour nights a week) that I don't have at least one patient that has a history of weight loss surgery in their current admission or their past. Last weekend I had 4! I can't imagine what those numbers are like in "fatter" states. Having moved from one of the thinner states (Colorado) and one of the thinnest and healthiest areas there (Boulder), I still know that I have more to loose and a lot of working out to do to get to a healthy fitness level. In this area though, especially for a mother and a woman my age, I am already about average if not a little below. With obesity becoming more and more prevelent, how can our society not become more accepting of it while looking for a solution?
