Clarian Health, And Others Will Dock Your Paycheck If You Are Fat....
I heard this on the news today and was just blown away. How can this be legal? I did a search on Google and found this information on the subject.....
Clarian Health, has stated that it's going to take $10 out of every fat person's paycheck starting in 2009.
If your BMI is over 30, it's going to cost you $10 per paycheck. This is not a joke. This is legal.
The Yahoo article says there are a couple of other companies doing this right now:
Western & Southern Financial Group, a Cincinnati-based insurance and financial-services provider, has been issuing employees with high BMI's a surcharge since 2001. Depending on their "scores" they are charged a fee between $15 - $75 a month if their BMI is high. They said there were a number of companies in the manufacturing industry doing the same.
If this is a trend then this is a really scary one. Don't we have enough hurdles to over come? Now we have to worry about getting money taken our of our paychecks.
Wouldn't you think it would be a better choice to offer gym memberships and to pay for weight loss programs and oh yea, weight loss surgery if all else fails.
What do you think? Will this make us get in shape or is this just another slap in the face to a life time of hurt and despair?
I copied this from the obesity help boards. I think is is a form of prejudice. Would they really dock someone for being of color, being gay, being tall, or having red hair? How is it legal to target one particual group of people and get away with it. I hear a law suit coming!

I think this sort of thing is a tough call. I have to say I agree with some kind of penalty measure IF a person has been offered resources and they refuse them. But maybe not cutting into a paycheck. That's a bit much.
The president of my company has talked about putting the entire office on a diet. He thinks certain people need it.
